Films and their makings - my thoughts
I had been watching a lot of movies over the weekend, Divergent, Love Guru (Romeo), Shero (Lion) and more. The Divergent movie made me think how different the movies produced differs according to the part of the world they are being produced and directed. While western world makes simple topic complex and easter worlds make complex topic simple, this statement could be blunt, at least watching the famous movies makes me to think so. There are lot of movies made in Hollywood, which are very relevant to Americans but not to Indians. Watching different types of movies from different parts of the world may help us to understand the nature of the people over there and their circumstances.
The need of a film or a movie
The most needed film to watch for a person is a film which can light up or enlighten people to move higher in the pyramids of needs. It also seems so that the films made are based on the societal needs, community needs, regional needs and sometimes to throw back the history on our face. Most of the Indian films are made for Indians first, family oriented, heroic, romance, they mostly have lot of actors involved similar to the situations any Indian is surrounded. In case of American films, no. of actors will be minimal except for few scenes on roads or clubs reflecting their reality. America being a developed country and being the big boss thinks about the either world when it is producing a film, so many Hollywood films are futuristics with lots of investments which they could recover. They have the industrial network to launch in as many places as possible including OTT.
My Realisation
Watching movies for fun and entertainment is great. But I also find interesting to discover that watching films can be highly informative to understand the way of life and lifestyle of the people living in different parts of the world.
I realised that in American films every move is made stylish and good amount of energy is spent of the choreography & lightings to represent what they think as future, for example cheating a villainous character in divergent movie by applying a controlling serum could have been a thing in Indian film with lot of dialogues, in that movie it had no dialogues but only actions spoke a lot. Before one could discover the plot moves fast. The lightings had been very bright unlike a market place or a godown in Indian films.
I was just comparing Hollywood vs Indian films, but what about German and European movies. They could shed different perspective. They will bring a lot of their own ideas and could reflect their situations and aspirations. They will rejects their societal needs and regional needs.
Learning about movies via movies requires studying producers, directors and actors. I felt actor Dev Patel always acts as in Slum dog millionaire kind of movies after watching LION movie. Stephen Spielberg and Christopher Nolan have their own genre in their production and direction. Marvel and Detective Comics (DC) produce their own genre of super heroes. In Indian context, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil and Bollywood produce their own regional movies. Bollywood had produced few super hero films such Ra One, Krish Series and Kollywood (Tamil) has produced Endhiran Series. I realise that I have not watched lot of European movies, movies made for regional and world could be very helpful to learn about different countries, lifestyles, thoughts and actions.
Conclusion
I like to conclude that learning of humans of different regional is possible by watching variety of films from different regions. It could also help teaching children about different parts of the world. One region at a time, one movie at a time. One actor at a time. Speaking about the different movies can help to speak about people, culture, society, pressure, tensions and lot about people of different parts of the world. While doing so one should also include discussing about film making process and how to act and direct and should appreciate and characterise the people behind it because people are always the key.
